Golfers give their time for Charity

Nirmayan Charity Pro Am- India’s only Charity Pro-Am Golf tournament will be held on 7th of January 2017 at Pune’s Oxford Golf & Country Club. This tournament is organized by Pune based International Professional Golfer Rajiv Datar in collaboration with Pratham Education Foundation.

Pratham Education Foundation is an innovative learning organization that works to improve the quality of education for children and to expand opportunities for skilling for youth.  Focusing on high-quality, low-cost, and replicable interventions to address gaps in the education system, Pratham has over the years, steadily grown in both scope and size, to become one of the largest education focused non-governmental organizations in the country.

Successfully for the third time 25 pro-ranked top golfers are coming together on one green to support a cause. The tournament will be played in Texas scramble format with 1 professional player and 3 amateur players in the team.

On this occasion Rajiv Datar said, “The first time seems like a fluke but after that to successfully get the best known names for three times to raise money for a charity event is a feat never done before. While the cause is close to my heart, it is also a unique concept where the interaction between Pros and amateur will be high, giving opportunity to all involved in the game to learn something new – even as we raise funds for a worthy cause. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and watch the golfing stars swing their clubs and see what the game is all about.”

Arjuna Awardee and Asian Games Winner Golfer Shiv Kapur who’s also the brand ambassador of JW Marriott and was the winner of the first edition of Nirmayan Charity Pro Am also was happy to take time out for charity. “I am the defending champion. So I had to be here. It’s a cause dear to our heart and every year it’s a pleasure to be able to give our time to raise money for charity. The weather in Pune is lovely at this time and we are happy to be here!”

For Rashid Khan, the No 1 PGTI Player of 2016, was also more than happy to lend his support to the Nirmayan Charity Pro-Am. “I have made my career in golf only due to support like this. So this is finally a way to give back and help many more underprivileged kids come up through Golf!”

Pune also gets a chance to witness a one of a kind auction of sports memorabilia, from the leading names in sports which all earmark some exciting sporting achievement too! Going under the hammer to raise more money for charity are legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s Cricket Bat, golfer Anirban’s Autographed shoes (which he wore at Rio 2016), Tennis Player David Ferrer’s autographed shoes (the ones he wore against the Davis Cup Tie in 2016 against India), Pune IPL Team’s autographed bat and more.
