With the Retirement of SachinTendulkar, the baton now is passed on to the ‘GenNext’ of the Indian cricket. The legends – Sachin Tendulkar,Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble have for long been the resilient pillars of the Indian cricket. Now it’s turn for the aggressive, fearless, flamboyant but talented ‘Young Brigade’ to shoulder the Indian cricket caravan to a new level.
The recent ODI form of Indian team clearly reflects the ability of the young Team India. Shikhar Dhawan,Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin have all proved their mettle with conquering the Champions Trophy in England to recent ODI series win over Australia. To talk about the Test Format, the Indian Team has won their last five consecutive test matches, which happens for the first time in Indian cricket history. All this enough to assure the future lies in the safe hands.
Obviously the real test of the Indian team will be when they tour outside India and the upcoming south African tour poses a huge challenge in front of the Indian team. The live and bouncy pitches add to that the pace and swing of Dale Steyn will be an acid test for the batsmen. Starting the series with ODIs might help Indian team get use to the conditions, also the south African ODI team is in a transition period might help.
Beating south Africa in their backyard won’t be an easy task and the team India for long has been in the process but anything close will be a huge achievement for this Young Brigade.
